The Saskatchewan Children’s Writers’ Round Robin was started in 1984. Over the years many children’s writers have come to write with us and then flown away to other places or pursuits. Collectively the current membership has published over 200 books. Today we have eleven members who continue to publish books annually and we are now celebrating our 40th anniversary!
We invite you to join our celebration. There are two components:
Public Library Event
On Saturday September 14 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm, the Robins gathered at the George Bothwell Library in Regina. Each of us gave a 10-minute talk on an aspect of writing that we are familiar with. Although we are all children’s writers, the content of the talks was applicable to writing for all ages. Audience members had the opportunity to talk to the authors, buy books, and share some anniversary cake.
Here is the order of the talks:
Order of Talks
- Alison Lohans – Developing Dynamic Characters
- Paula Jane Remlinger – Improving Your Poetry
- Anne Patton – Researching Historical Fiction
- Sharon Plumb – Creating Believable Fantasy Worlds
- Judith Silverthorne – Time Travel
- Sandra Davis – The Singing Teacher
- Pat Miller-Shroeder – Writing Prehistoric Fiction
- Myrna Guymer – Writing Childhood Memories
- Gillian Richardson – Short Stories
- Linda Aksomitis – Writing from the public domain
- Dianne Young – Rhyming and Timing
The library live stream the talks, but did not record them. They also provided the cake!
Fly into Reading! Contest
All Kindergarten to Grade 12 students in Saskatchewan are invited to enter our reading contest between September 14 and November 1, 2024. Read one of our books (most of them are in the library), write or draw a response, and enter on our website to win. Prizes will be awarded by draw and include books for two students in each of four age categories. As well, each winning student’s classroom, local library, or home school group will win a free author reading from the participating author of their choice.
The reading contest is now over. Thank you to everyone who read our books and entered the contest. Winners will be notified on November 4.
